Nakia's Organic Garden Supplies her Restaurant
The four-acre organic garden at Nakia Resort & Dive is an extension of our life-long involvement with growing our own produce and flowers in Northern California. The garden produces fresh organic vegetables, fruits, and herbs for our restaurant and also supplies the restaurants of other resorts on Taveuni and nearby islands, through our company, Taveuni Organic Produce. With our staff of Fijian farmers from the nearby village of Welagi, we pick just what we need each day, storing all produce in carefully-controlled conditions until served in our dining room or delivered to other resorts.
We grow everything organically with filtered mountain stream water and our own organic compost. In keeping with our commitment to environmental sustainability, we employ irrigation to minimize water use; compost all organic materials; and use no synthetic chemicals of any kind in the garden. From seed to harvest, everything in the garden is as nature intended We eat the same healthy and tasty food that we serve our guests.
