Map of Fiji & Location of Nakia on Taveuni
Fiji is an island group in the South Pacific, North of New Zealand and East of Australia. Nakia Resort & Dive is located on Taveuni, the third largest island in Fiji. Taveuni is at the heart of the tropical South Pacific on the 180° meridian just North of the Tropic of Capicorn. It is Fiji's Garden Island – 42 kilometers long and 12 kilometers wide – a spectacular volcanic mountain cloaked in rain forest, farms, and gardens.
Nakia Resort & Dive
occupies ten spectacular acres of gardens and forest overlooking the Somosomo Strait and neighboring Vanua Levu. Nakia's pristine rural location means that guests fully experience nature in a serene and expansive setting of exceptional beauty.
Most visitors fly to Taveuni, landing at the small airstrip in Matei, at the northern tip of Taveuni. Matei hosts a small shopping district and nearly all of the island's resorts. Nakia is 8 kilometers (5 miles) Southwest of Matei on the West coast of the island. The twin towns of Somosomo and Naqara, 3 kilometers (2 miles) Southwest of Nakia, form the island's commercial and ceremonial center, with shops, cafes, and ceremonial facilities. The island's administrative center, additional resorts, post office, hospital and ferry dock are located at Waiyevo, 7 kilometers (4 miles) Southwest of Nakia. A short trip up the mountain above Waiyevo leads to the official marker for the 180° meridian.
Nakia maintains a fleet of eco–friendly deluxe mountain bikes, freely available to guests. Biking is a pleasure because relatively few cars share the island's roads and the scenic coastal road is paved and flat. Most of Taveuni's shops, cafes and interesting beaches are just a short bike ride away. Secondary roads are unpaved and often lead straight up a mountain. Offroad biking is fun but challenging! For longer excursions, you will want to hire a van and driver. Our friendly staff will book Nakia's own van and driver or we gladly will make other arrangements to suit your preferences.
Air Travel
It's easy to fly to Fiji. Fiji's Nadi International Airport hosts daily direct international flights from Sydney (4 hours), Auckland (3 hours), Honolulu (6 hours), and Los Angeles (10 hours).
Fiji's domestic airline, PacificSun, provides daily service to Taveuni's Matei airfield from Nadi, Suva, and other Fijian cities. Flying time is between 60 and 90 minutes.
Inter–island ferry
Regularly scheduled ferries carry cargo, vehicles and passengers between Taveuni and ports on the other islands.
Regardless of how you choose to travel, we will meet you upon arrival; both the airport and the ferry dock are a 10–15 minute drive from Nakia. Contact us for more information about our location and for help with your travel arrangements.
